After spending six years in the United States Air Force and twenty-five years in Information Technology Consulting, I decided to start whitewater kayaking lessons in March of 2018 at the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC).
Given that I’m a 52 year old rookie kayaker, this blog will chronicle my journey as I learn a new sport including the good and not-so-good things that happen along the way.
So why “Big Red Kayak” when I’m pictured in a green kayak above? While taking my first whitewater lessons at the USNWC, I tried several boats including the Jackson Zen and Antix, Dagger Mamba and Axiom, and Liquid Logic Remix. I decided a Red Jackson Antix was the right boat for me and the green (Citrus) boat was a loaner while I waited for my boat to arrive. And there you have it… Big Red Kayak!
